Hiking through Bergisch Land

Today I got back from 3 days of hiking with my host father and host brother. The trail we took is called "The Panoramic Climb" but was not an actual trail. It was a collections of roads, dirt paths, horse-riding trails, edges of properties, and parks that the towns in this area came together and designated as a tour of the land. The first day was a slow start because we first had to find the parking lot and the path. Unfortunately, the sunny weather from the past week didn't stay, so we walked in the fog and light rain for 3 hours covering 15.6 kilometers until we reached our first Youth Hostel. We had finished surprisingly early that day so we took the day to lay in our room and rest until dinner. I very much appreciated the hot food after a cold day outdoors. We were given a personal buffet of endless french fries and cooked chicken. After a few plates of food and an ice-cream sandwich I retired warm and satisfied to my bed. The second day's forecast was set to be the worst of the 3 days with real rain showers starting early afternoon. To our surprise, we were very lucky to see the day stay dry until we had already been finished. The scales have to be balanced somehow and that means my worn shoes are not water-proof and one has a puncture in the heel going through the whole shoe. Despite my discomfort, I didn't allow my personal problems to get in the way of the hike. We walked further until our 17.5 kilometer goal. The third and final day was a bit tougher due to the wear and tear on my body from carrying my pack repeatedly up and down the hills in the mud and on the pavement. The weather; however, was nothing to complain about. I got so warm I had to take off my fleece and windbreaker to avoid sweating through all my clothes. I was definitely ready to be done with the walk as we pulled into our last few kilometers. As we turned the corner into the town where we were supposed to be picked up my host mother came exactly on time and no one had to wait a single second on anyone else. We unloaded the packs and drove gladly home to some cake and a shower.
